What to Expect When Recovering from a Broken Ankle

Physical activity is, of course, one of the tenets for a healthy life, but unfortunately it comes with at least a certain degree of sports injury risk, like perhaps sustaining a broken ankle. Beyond sporting activities and exercise programs, there are other ways to sustain a fracture in one of the bones—the tibia, fibula, and talus—that form the ankle. When surgical treatment is not required, we may use a splint or cast to keep the bones lined up correctly as they heal. During this time, keeping weight off the affected area will help your broken ankle recovery. We may prescribe medication to alleviate any painful symptoms.
